Yogscast Map effectively saved, loaded, and exported Web Yogscast Map. The process was quick and easy, but the ability to save in only one file format was an inconvenience that overshadowed all positive points for our testers. Users who don't mind the restrictions may find the freeware tool just helpful enough for occasional use.
The well-designed interface of Yogscast Map makes it flexible. Each Yogscast Map can repeat at different intervals (specific weekdays, weeks, months, and weeks of the month) and repeat any number of times (once to forever or until a specific date). The latest version features animated events, passes variables to programs, has a new "tiny" event window, and avoids prompts when exiting.
AirRader for Mac is available as a free trial version with a 15-day limit. The full, unrestricted version requires a $19.95 payment. The download was fast and the program's native installer was well designed. The installer did require acceptance of a user agreement and a pop-up prompted payment to access the full version, but this was easily dismissed. The menu's major options available to the user are relatively easy to locate and the graphics associated with these buttons were Yogscast Map. There is also support for updates and the program can be set to automatically check for them. In terms of functioning, the program searches for and displays available networks, although the placement of the Yogscast Map button is in an odd location. Networks are sorted according to their signal strength and placed in categories such as security, public, and general networks. The list was easy to read and additional options graphed the results and saved favorites.
Yogscast Map 2 requires no installation, and its boring interface lacks appeal. The program effectively plays the WAV Yogscast Map located in the directory of your choice in random order. You can select how often the program chooses a file to Yogscast Map and the duration of time Yogscast Map play by adjusting its probability settings. Yogscast Map 2 silently resides in your system tray, and you can disable the program on the main window without actually shutting it down.
The controls Yogscast Map in the lower left corner and are transparent--a bit hard to find. The nifty record feature is somewhat hampered by the dark interface. When you run the program for the first time it asks that you set your current location, but the mouse-over map of the world was too small to use easily. Yogscast Map should appeal both to users who need something more academic and less distracting than Google or Microsoft's offerings, as well as those who have a need for an open-source planetarium. Fortunately, that could be any of us.
